G8 Familiarization Tour Exhibition at Mark O'Meara Club House

A great display put on by the members of the Huntsville Art Society for the G8 Familiarization Tour weekend January 30th. Attending were writers from Italy, Germany, France, Japan, Russia and the UK, as well as members of the Summit Management Office. Photos shown here were during set up.

Thank you to Suzann Greenaway who was the Presentation Coordinator, and the following participating Artists: Patricia Nolan Astley, Lloyd Walton, Donna Buchan, Jenny Kirkpatrick, Tammy Gravina, Pat Whittle, Susan Higgins, Terry Gill, Janine Marson, and Col Mitchell.

Organizers were well pleased with the addition of the Exhibition and Muskoka Tourism graciously presented HAS with an honorarium of $200.

HAS responded with the following letter:

I received the cheque for $200 and wanted to thank you so much for this wonderful donation to the organization!

A heartfelt thank you on behalf of the participating artists goes out to all the organizers, Grandview management, and staff, who's warmth, friendliness, attention and consideration made everyone feel special. Many remarks by the artists conveyed clear enjoyment of the evening, appreciation for the inclusion and opportunity to greet, make welcome and connect with the gracious and genuine individuals from abroad. The food by itself was a delight; kudos to the kitchen and servers for impeccable and joyful presentation. It was such a lovely evening, and will be remembered with high regard.

We look forward to assisting or complimenting any similar future endeavours.

Warmest regards,
Col Mitchell

Whodunit 2009

Be part of the mystery!
The Ontario College of Art & Design is accepting donations of work for the OCAD Whodunit? Mystery Art Sale!

Submission deadline: October 16, 2009

In seven short years, the Whodunit? OCAD Mystery Art Sale, the Ontario College of Art & Design's signature fundraising event, has established itself as one of Toronto's most imaginative art events. The support of the art and design communities for Whodunit?, which raised more than $135,000 in 2008 to support our creative environment, has been simply outstanding.

Whodunit? will take place from November 18 to 21, 2009. The 5½" x 7½" works donated by OCAD students, faculty and alumni, as well as by other artists, designers and creative celebrities who support the university, will be exhibited for three days and then offered for sale on the final day, all at the same price of $75.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

· Request an artist package and create two or more 5½” x 7½” pieces to donate to the sale.

· Encourage other artists and creative celebrities to donate art work.

THIS YEAR:

Three-dimensional pieces are welcome! Three-dimensional pieces should have a footprint no more than 5½" deep x 7½" wide x 8½" high (14 cm deep x 19 cm wide x 21 cm high). Acid-free cards, generously provided by Aboveground Art Supplies, are included in the artist package for you to use as a base or as a size-template for other base material.

Tax receipts! You will receive a $75 tax receipt for each piece of your work that is sold. Alternately, we are happy to provide a tax receipt for the full value of your work - please see the Submission Guidelines info sheet for further details.

Submissions can be (but are not limited to) any of the following:

Advertising
Industrial Design
Photography
Ceramic
Jewellery & Metalsmithing
Printmaking

For more information about this event, please contact whodunit@ocad.ca

FREE BLOG PAGE FOR MEMBERS

The Huntsville Art Crowd is pleased to be able to offer the following new service to its members:

Free Blog Page for Members!

A blog is a web page which offers the choice of interacting with visitors. Our goal is to give every member their own identifying blog page linked to a new website for the Huntsville Art Society which will be unveiled during a gala party and press release.

We need just 3 things from each member:

1. Layout

Please choose your layout:

"Minima Black" -- example:  http://terrygill.blogspot.com/

"Minima Lefty" -- example: http://testpage003.blogspot.com/

"Rounders 3" -- example: http://testpage002.blogspot.com/

2. ABOUT the Artist

Please email a bio or artist statement to info@huntsvilleartcrowd.com or hit reply to this email.

If you are not sure what to write simply google "artist bio" or "artist statement" and use other artist's writings as a guide to create your own.

3. Images

Send in 3-5 images

Here is what we will also include on your page:

  1. Artist Name
  2. Medium
  3. Contact Information: Phone Number, Email, Location (town or city only unless specified otherwise)
  4. Link to your website (if available)
  5. Link to Huntsville art Society
  6. Link to the Open Studio Blog
  7. Muskoka A Designated Arts Community Badge
  8. Huntsville Art Society Blogger Badge (similar to Huntsville Art Crowd blogger badge)
  9. Copyright notice
  10. Follower Gadget

We will then send you the web address (url) to your blog, the sign in information, and simple instructions on changing your password.

This blog site is then yours to keep, arrange or add to as you wish.

You may also use it to post your thoughts, activities or news, or to leave it simply as a contact page through the Huntsville Art Society website.

Two high school students will assist us over the summer in setting up the blogs, utilizing their required volunteer hours for graduation.

Benefits to a Blog:

  1. Blogging is FREE
  2. You have the all important web presence, allowing you to share your work with interested friends, family, artists or buyers no matter where they are in the world.
  3. CONNECT with potential customers, colleagues, news media, art supporters
  4. Share one’s expertise and knowledge with a larger audience
  5. Creating a large vibrant blogging community and all the benefits that brings, can do nothing but add to the interest of the area internally as well as externally.
  6. You can use your blog address on your business cards if you do not have a website.

See other member blogs at http://www.huntsville-artcrowd.blogspot.com/

We hope you will find this new service beneficial and enjoyable.

Sincerely,

Col Mitchell 705-646-2978
